Breath of Life

This poem was inspired by Ethan Hibb's album 'Tempest'. In particular, by his song 'Skies of Smoke', which I would recommend listening as you read this poem.
My heart yearns
for the breath of the sky
a tapestry of cloud blossoms
in a field tainted
by endless, petal
ghost tears.
There where the horizon
burns a burnt gold
and the stars stretch to infinite
their melody; the song
of all trees of old,
the light of their souls
pierces even the darkest
ends of the Earth.
Watch
as the waves thunder
under the silver moon
rolling lightning,
where the whales dance
to the orchestra of the untamed storm
deep, eternal
the sea charges and surges,
a darkness of peace
a tempest free.
My heart yearns
to feel the soft moss
the sharp bark
the ancient warmth
to trace the roots
trailing, swirling
curving along the green
breath of soil, life and leaves.
Starlight echoes through
these trees.
There where the grass
grazes the frozen tips of the sky
and the flowers bloom
on treasured bones
where crystal butterflies
sit and sing and search
on Spring thorned
meadow thrones.
Watch
as I cry
running, dancing, barefoot
atop hills of lemon
bitterness stains my tongue
droplets of rain fall
heavy with thought,
falling through my hair
soaking skin,
meat and bones,
laughter rises
as feather wings
stretch into the infinite sky.
My heart yearns
for the sky
where my scream may
join the song
of the stars,
ever watching
the eternal breath
of life
far down below.
