Oh Dear Moon

Oh dear moon

it cannot be

you’re a poet

and I’m merely a letter

floating, swaying, dancing

waiting

for the day your light

shines on my lonely stage

and I may move,

may breathe and dance

to your silver harmony.

Oh dear moon

it cannot be

for I love you

but you do not love me

when the sky turns dark

you only turn darker

and leave a lake

filled with forgotten pearls

floating, swaying, dancing

to your dark shadow.

Oh dear moon

it cannot be

you smile from a far

and yet your eyes

never land on me,

you watch the

floating, swaying, dancing

water lilies,

graceful creatures,

wild meadows,

and rolling waves

you love all

but never me.

Oh dear moon

my breath is waning

my pulse is slow

and I fear your light

will never grace

my dying heart

I can only watch

your cold, stone face.

Oh dear moon

won’t you please

just look at me?
