I just need to breathe

Hold me.

Hide me in the warmth of your arms

where safety is guaranteed

where the world can pass by

in all its bold blocks of colors

and noise

muted by unseeing eyes.

Hold me

so that I can be loved

be safe

be free.

In that land of music and roses

where the sun is never too sharp

where the winters are just right

autumn days spent crunching leaves

under dirt rimmed shoes

that run by the budding green leaves

and swirling swans of spring.

Hold me.

Let me escape for a moment

only for a blink of time

close my heavy eyes

and just breathe.

Let me hide in the familiar darkness

chat with the kindly shadows,

lie down and listen to

the whispers of song

and lonely echoes of the world.

It's so big the world.

The universe and its galaxies of unknown stars.

And I am so small.

Hold me

in that place of peace where I don't need to try

where I can simply be;

be without fear

of judgement,

be without worry

of our future.

Such a fragile, tender thing

little olive tendrils

reaching for the sun

lying in the cusp of our trembling hands.

Hold me

please.

Or don't.

I just need to breathe.
